Good questions.
Honest answers.
What does lease-to-own actually mean?
You rent for a set period with an agreement about a future purchase. A lease-option generally gives you a choice to buy; a lease-purchase may create an obligation to buy. Review the exact terms with a qualified professional.
Does my rent become mortgage payments?
No. Rent is paid during the lease. Buying later is a separate transaction and usually requires a mortgage and closing. Some agreements include purchase credits, subject to contract and lender requirements.
Why should I create an Ownstep profile?
Your free profile saves your home preferences, favorites, savings scenario, and preparation checklist. You can pick up where you left off across visits and devices. Joining does not involve a credit check or loan application.
Are these homes lease-to-own?
The homes you see are single-family homes currently listed for rent in the states we cover. Whether a lease-to-own path is possible depends on the owner and on the program you qualify for. When you ask about a home we check with the listing office and come back to you with what is possible.
What do programs usually look for?
Most lease-to-own programs publish a baseline of a credit score of 550 or higher and at least $3,000 in monthly household income, plus a rental and background check. Ownstep asks for your own figures only to show where you stand. We never pull your credit.
How do I move forward with a home?
Save the home, then send us your questions from your workspace. We check with the listing office and reply by email with what is possible, the terms, upfront costs, and the next steps. There is no obligation at any point.
What happens if I decide not to buy?
The consequences depend on the agreement. You may lose option fees or purchase credits; a lease-purchase can create an obligation to buy. Check deadlines, refunds, maintenance duties, and exit provisions before committing.
