These Terms of Service ("Terms") are an agreement between you and Gatewiser LLC ("Ownstep", "we", "us"), which operates ownstep.co (the "Site"). By using the Site you agree to these Terms and to our Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site.

The service

Ownstep helps you explore single-family homes listed for rent in the states we cover, save the ones you like, ask whether a lease-to-own path is possible for them, and organize a personal plan toward buying a home. Ownstep is an information and planning service. We are not a lender, broker, real estate agent, landlord or financial adviser, and nothing on the Site is financial, legal or tax advice.

Your profile

You must be at least 18 years old to create a profile. You agree to give accurate information, to keep your password confidential and to tell us promptly if you believe your profile has been used without your permission. You are responsible for activity under your profile. You can delete your profile at any time under Settings.

Homes and inquiries

Home listings on the Site come from public rental listing data and are provided for exploration. Homes are listed for rent; a lease-to-own or lease-option path is not implied for any home and depends on the owner and on the program you qualify for. Rent, availability and other details are subject to confirmation and may change or be withdrawn without notice. When you ask about a home we forward your name, email address and message to the listing office or the party responsible for that home. Any lease, option or purchase agreement is made directly between you and that party under its own terms, and Ownstep is not a party to it.

Rent credits, when offered, apply only under the written agreement for a specific home. Qualification for a mortgage or other financing is determined by a lender and is never guaranteed by Ownstep.

Planning tools

The savings scenario, checklist and other planning tools use the numbers you enter. They are planning aids only. They do not reflect your creditworthiness, do not predict approval for financing, and do not promise that you will be able to buy a home. Review your plans with a qualified professional before making financial decisions.

SMS Terms

The Ownstep text message program ("Ownstep Updates") is operated by Gatewiser LLC ("Ownstep", "we", "us").

By opting in, you agree to receive recurring automated marketing and informational text messages from Ownstep about homes, your plan, and lease-to-own programs at the mobile number you provided. Consent is not a condition of creating a profile or of any purchase.

Message frequency varies. Message and data rates may apply.

To stop receiving messages, reply STOP to any message. You will receive one message confirming your opt-out and no further messages after that. You may also opt out by updating your preference under Settings in your workspace or by contacting us at contact@ownstep.co.

For help, reply HELP to any message or contact us at contact@ownstep.co.

Wireless carriers are not liable for delayed or undelivered messages.

We may change these SMS Terms at any time. Changes take effect when posted on this page. For how we handle your information, see our Privacy Policy at ownstep.co/privacy.

Acceptable use

You agree not to use the Site to break the law, to send spam or misleading inquiries, to collect information about other users, to interfere with the Site's security or operation, or to copy the Site's content for commercial purposes. We may suspend or close profiles that violate these Terms.

Our content

The Site, its design, text, graphics and software are owned by Gatewiser LLC or its licensors and are protected by copyright and other laws. You may use the Site for your personal, non-commercial purposes only.

Disclaimers and limitation of liability

The Site is provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that listings are accurate or available, that the Site will be uninterrupted or error free, or that any outcome such as homeownership will be achieved.

To the fullest extent permitted by law, Gatewiser LLC and its officers, employees and agents will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive damages, or for any loss of profits, data or goodwill, arising from your use of the Site. Our total liability for any claim relating to the Site will not exceed one hundred US dollars (USD 100). Some jurisdictions do not allow these limitations, so they may not apply to you.

Governing law

These Terms are governed by the laws of the State of Wyoming and applicable federal law of the United States, without regard to conflict of law rules. Any dispute will be brought in the state or federal courts located in Wyoming, and you consent to their jurisdiction.

Changes to these Terms

We may update these Terms from time to time. The date at the top shows when they were last changed. Continued use of the Site after a change means you accept the updated Terms.
