What Ownstep is

Ownstep is a free home search and planning service for people who want to rent a single-family home now and work toward buying one later. We show homes currently listed for rent in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Indiana, Kentucky, North Carolina, Ohio and Tennessee, help you ask whether a lease-to-own path is possible for a home you like, and give you a personal workspace to keep your favorites, your savings scenario and your preparation checklist together.

What we do

• Show single-family homes that are currently listed for rent, using public rental listing data that is refreshed daily.
• Let you save homes, compare them and keep notes on your next steps.
• Forward your questions about a home to the listing office and reply to you with what we learn: whether a lease-to-own path is possible, the terms, upfront costs and the next steps.
• Explain how lease-to-own agreements usually work and what programs typically look for, so you can prepare.
• Send you text message updates about your profile, your saved homes, your inquiries and your plan, but only if you ask for them.

What we do not do

• We are not a lender, mortgage broker, real estate agent, landlord or financial adviser.
• We do not run credit checks and we do not pull credit reports. The credit score range and income you enter are your own estimates and are shown back only to you.
• We do not decide whether you qualify for anything. Every lease, option or purchase agreement is made directly between you and the owner or program for that home.
• We do not sell your personal information, and we never share your mobile number or text message consent with third parties for marketing.

Ownstep supports the Fair Housing Act and equal housing opportunity. Homes are shown and inquiries are forwarded without regard to race, color, religion, sex, national origin, familial status or disability.
